Curious about the number 4 on the package? That’s the number of systems cacao benefits: your brain health, your metabolic system, your cardiac system, your immune system. Decades of research shows cocoa flavanols are a powerful phytonutrient supporting heart, brain, and whole-body health by promoting healthy blood flow.

INGREDIENTS

  • Raw cacao is one of the highest sources of polyphenols of all foods.  Studies show it opens up your blood vessels to get blood (oxygen, nutrients) flowing to your brain. Cacao does this by acting on blood vessels, increasing the body’s production of a compound called nitric oxide (NO). NO causes the thin muscles in and around the blood vessel walls to relax, allowing the blood vessel to dilate or widen.

  • Coconut milk has MCTs (medium chain triglycerides) that fuel your brain and may improve memory and mental performance.

  • Coffee fruit has been shown to increases a protein called Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) also called “miracle grow for the brain.”

Raw Cacao (100% unprocessed cocoa). Cocoa powder and cacao powder are very similar, but cocoa is processed at a much higher temperature that destroys a good amount of the nutritional content. Cacao is high in resveratrol, a potent antioxidant also found in red wine, known for its ability to cross your blood-brain barrier to help protect your nervous system. Cacao can increase levels of certain neurotransmitters that promote a sense of well-being. It is rich in magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper, and manganese.

Coconut Milk Powder. In addition to providing nutrients and its awesome taste, coconut milk nutrition contains a beneficial fat called lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium-chain fatty acid that’s easily absorbed and used by the body for energy. According to recent studies, lauric acid is a protective type of fatty acid (medium-chain triglyceride MCT) that has not been linked to negative changes in cholesterol levels and even seems to support heart health. For example, when 60 healthy volunteers were given coconut milk porridge for five days a week for eight weeks, researchers found that their low density lipoprotein (LDL) levels decreased, while their “good” high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels rose significantly.

Under normal circumstances, brain cells use glucose for energy. But the MCTs in coconut oil break down into ketones, which can be used by brain cells for fuel.

Coffee fruit (Cascara) powder. Coffee beans we steep in the morning are actually the seeds of the coffee fruit (also called coffee cherry, cascara or coffee berry). The coffee fruit is packed with antioxidants; one of the highest of all foods actually. The coffee fruit is often discarded as waste in order to use the beans for our morning Joe. But not only does using the coffee fruit provide a boost of antioxidants, it’s also more sustainable for the environment.
