ingredients
Rosemary. Rosemary has been linked to memory for hundreds of years. Recent studies show the powerful effects of rosemary on the brain. One study that involved 28 older adults found that consumption of dried rosemary powder was associated with statistically significantly improved memory speed. There are compounds in rosemary that may act in the same way as the drugs used to treat dementia by increasing the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
Lemon Balm has strong antioxidants that protect brain cells from free radical damage and has been shown to raise the levels of the anti-anxiety neurotransmitter GABA.
Sage supports your brain and memory in several ways. It’s loaded with antioxidants, which are neuro-protective. Sage halts the breakdown of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. In one study, 39 participants with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease consumed either 60 drops (2 ml) of a sage extract supplement or a placebo daily for four months. Those taking the sage extract performed better on tests that measured memory, problem-solving, reasoning and other cognitive abilities. In both younger and older adults, sage appears to improve memory and brain function.
Peppermint. Recent research suggests the oils in peppermint may improve memory and cognitive tasks requiring sustained focus. Northumbria University researchers tested peppermint tea against memory and cognition in 180 healthy people who were randomly selected to drink either hot water, chamomile tea or peppermint tea. Peppermint tea was found to significantly improved long term memory, increase working memory, and enhance alertness. Peppermint has been shown to improve the strength of signals between neurons in the hippocampus, a part of the brain important for memory and learning.
